It’s February 7, 2022. We’re a month and seven days into the year, and I don’t know about you but it hasn’t been really easy to seek the Lord first, consistently. And if you’re like me, this word may describe one of the reasons why it’s been so difficult; distractions.

Trust me, you’re not the only one that has ever dealt with distractions. Read this:

“Now as they were traveling along, He entered a village; and a woman named Martha welcomed Him into her home. And she had a sister called Mary, who was also seated at the Lord’s feet, and was listening to His word. But Martha was distracted with all her preparations; and she came up to Him and said, “Lord, do You not care that my sister has left me to do the serving by myself? Then tell her to help me.” But the Lord answered and said to her, “Martha, Martha, you are worried and distracted by many things; but only one thing is necessary; for Mary has chosen the good part, which shall not be taken away from her.””
‭‭Luke‬ ‭10:38-42‬ ‭NASB2020‬‬

I really love this passage of scripture. It shows us the hearts of two women. One who is distracted by many things, and these things aren’t necessarily bad things.

You see, Martha wants to be a great hostess and serve her guests. She knows full well who Jesus is, so she wants to be hospitable. I can imagine her cooking up a storm, bringing out the real nice dishes, and setting the table with the fine linens passed down to her by her great great grandmother.

She wants to make everything extra special for Jesus and his disciples, and thinks to herself “For this to look perfect, I’m going to need Mary’s help.” So she looks for Mary, and where is she? At the feet of the master. This is the other woman the passage gives us a little glance into the heart of, Mary. Mary is at the Lord’s feet. Her heart must have been filled with wonder as she set there. Listening to his words, soaking up droplets of wisdom, and crannies of love. Tears flowed down my cheeks writing this, because I desperately need the heart of Mary, choosing the good part…

We will talk more about these two women this month. I wanna leave you though with this question though:

What’s distracting you from being with Jesus?

With Love,
